2025 CRISP Doctoral Training School

Congratulations to all those doctoral students who participated in and completed the sixth CRISP Doctoral Training School [DTS] last week (16 - 20 June). The students came from as far afield as Australia, Canada and the USA and engaged in a week-long training school of expert lectures, workshops and skill sessions relating to digital technologies, surveillance and privacy. The 2025 edition of the DTS was held on the stunning University of Stirling Campus and was accompanied by gorgeous Scottish weather. Academics and experts from across Scotland delivered the highly engaging sessions, which featured lively debate and authentic interactions between the participants and tutors. In time-honoured tradition, the School finished with a Ceilidh in Glasgow in the sweltering heat!
The CRISP Doctoral Training School focuses on all the things that they don't tell you how to do on your postgraduate research programme but that you are expected to do as a fully fledged academic. How to understand academic identities, how to navigate the publication process, how to work with practitioners and policymakers, and, most importantly, how to collaborate effectively to create successful research grants all feature in the School's agenda. Students who were perhaps lone surveillance scholars in their home institutions made connections with like minded colleagues from across the world. Most importantly, this year's participants have developed their academic skillsets and nurtured academic connections and networks that will help their careers flourish. Welcome to the CRISP family (and if you haven't yet had the CRISP DTS experience, look out for the next edition in 2027)!
